19 – Countdown

The ticket has been purchased, and phase one of my journey to Catalunya begins in 19 days. I’ll be meeting Catalina, who will already have arrived on the 15th of this month, and we’ll begin our search for new digs, new friends, and new living patterns. I’ll return April 15 for 2-3 months, to attend my daughter’s graduation, participate in a family vacation with my parents, and tie up any loose ends I haven’t been able to put in order in the next coupe of weeks. Then… whoosh!

When you know you are counting backward toward zero, numbers as small as “19” go a long way toward making things appear real; but of course nothing is as real as tierra firma underfoot. Or I would say: nothing is real, period, until tierra firma is underfoot. So for now, the fantastical and faraway land and language of Barcelona are simply fantastical and faraway; its shimmering outline will grow solid soon enough.

What is close by now, however, are friends… so I really hope to spend a little time with each of them before I fly, now or in the Spring.

I am on line at 33,000 feet, en route to Atlanta for a day of business. How unreal is that!
